Blount County Commission PRESS RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE: March 17, 2020
In order to make every effort to protect the health and well-being of Blount
County residents, The Blount County Commission has decided to close
county facilities to the public as of 5 pm on Tuesday March 17th, and
remain closed through Friday, April 3rd, with most offices reopening on
Monday, April 6th. Personnel will be available at those facilities to serve the
public via telephone and web-based services. Services such as tag and
license renewal are available online and county personnel are here to help
walk people through that process via telephone if they need assistance.
State Health Officer, Dr. Scott Harris has mandated that restaurants in
Blount County shall not allow on-premises consumption of food or
beverage and should utilize carry-out or drive-through services beginning at
5 pm today, March 17th and remaining in force for one week, at which time
they will be re-evaluated. He also stated that until April 6th, gatherings of
25 persons or more are prohibited and any gatherings of any size that do
not allow a six foot separation of people are prohibited. Private schools and
daycares with 12 or more children other than those in hospital facilities will
be closed until April 6th. We encourage members of the public to remain
calm and follow the guidelines outlined by the CDC and Alabama
Department of Public Health.
We also encourage each person to do your part and we will overcome this
crisis together.
